Nahuel is proof that Joham retains a Y-chromosome. Renesmée is proof that Edward retains his human DNA, or she would be a clone of Bella. This isn’t the meta for me to get into that, but I don’t think vampires have muscles in the sense we do. It does a lot of work to make Tony Stark into a martyr, whose paranoia saved the world. Time and time again, the MCU vindicates the idea that Tony Stark’s arms race is at worst a zero sum game, but mostly a necessary thing. Whether there is such a thing as ‘the right hands’. And not once does this cause Tony Stark or anyone else to question whether or not this is generally a good idea. He blackmails Peter, a teenager, into fighting for him against Captain America, and then gives thim the responsibility to control deadly, powerful weapons with no oversight. In all three cases, the weapons fall into ‘the wrong hands’ within weeks of completion, causing massive casualties. In all three cases, his weapons clearly put the power to spy on and murder people in the hands of a very small group of people. He does this with the Hydra carriers, he does this with Ultron, and he does this with EDITH. He is all about creating weapons of mass destruction. I just want to point out how the show has managed to depict a totalitarian regime perfectly well in a completely fictional, sci-fi setting.Ī similar dynamic is present in the heroes of the MCU, particularly in Tony Stark. These differences make TVA employees much less horrible and allow us to bond with them and allow them to have redemption. Moreover, as I said, many factors make the TVA different: the fact that the employees were kidnapped and manipulated, the fact that their memories were erased, the fact that the TVA was built following a real threat (even if it does not change his horrible actions which had to stop) and not following an ideology and a desire to take power, etc. I am in no way justifying any actions of people working for a totalitarian regime or saying that they were/are not bad people.
I know very well that it's different, first because it's a science fiction concept, then because I absolutely don't want to compare this fictional concept to the horrors that happen and have happened in real life. Please note: I am not comparing the TVA to the totalitarian regimes that exist and have really existed.
